VOLUNTEER

The best way to find yourself
Is to lose yourself in the service of others.

The Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative relies on the generosity of volunteers to assist the organization in reaching its mission of supporting women living with illness, promoting health and disease prevention, and advocating for lesbian health. We utilize volunteers in several roles to accomplish these goals. Whether you are looking for a one time or ongoing assignments, the Health Initiative can provide you with a volunteer experience that promises to be rewarding.

The Health Initiative provides orientations and trainings to prepare volunteers for every opportunity.
Below is a list of ongoing opportunities with the Health Initiative.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Direct Services
Dog lovers, cat persons, errand runners, or would-be chefs who know their way around the kitchen, are just a few of the volunteers the Health Initiative can use.

Health Initiative clients are encouraged to ask for the assistance they need. Our staff works with clients to negotiate help in several areas including transportation to appointments and errands, light house keeping and laundry, yard work, pet care, minor home repair, cooking light meals, and visiting with clients at home and by phone or email. As needs arise we also help clients organize Care Teams to support them as they live with illness. Often the Care Team consists of the client’s family and friends. However, there are times when additional volunteers are needed to help support the primary caregivers. Occasional weekday daytime availability is a must for direct service opportunities.

Administrative Volunteer
Spend time at the Health Initiative office and assist with data entry, stuffing envelopes, cataloging our resource library, running errands, and all the other behind-the-scenes tasks that support the work of the Health Initiative.

Event Volunteer
The Fall Garden Party and the Spring Fling are annual events that require a host of volunteers to make successful. Volunteers are involved with everything from planning the event, picking up items around town, bartending, passing food, registering attendees, and breaking down the event. If event planning is your love, or if you simply enjoy having a good time while making sure others do as well, this is the opportunity for you.
Help us create your ideal volunteer opportunity!
