SUPPORT GROUPS

The Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative offers a wide array of groups that support the health and well-being of lesbians and their friends and families.
  • Bi-weekly cancer support groups for survivors and their partners. (See calendar)

  • Monthly support groups for caregivers of elderly parents/family members. (See calendar)

  • Weekly Weight Watchers group each Saturday for lesbians and like-minded individuals who want to improve their health through weight loss. (See calendar)

  • Referrals and connections with additional support groups for women who cannot travel to attend intown group meetings. Contact the Health Initiative for details.

  • Personalized care team support planning for women dealing with illnesses (including referrals to complementary agencies that help with meals, housing, expenses and insurance. Contact the Health Initiative for details.

  • Domestic violence survivors group--a safe place for survivors to work toward recovery from their situations. If you or someone you know has an immediate need for shelter from domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. Once safety has been established, the Health Initiative’s survivors group can help you work toward recovery. Contact the Health Initiative for details.

  • Batterers need help too. The Health Initiative’s domestic violence batterers group is the only lesbian support group organized with the specific goal of helping women to manage their anger, and to work toward breaking the cycle of violence. Contact the Health Initiative for details.
