Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative, Georgia Equality and MEGA Family Project invite you to the official opening and dedication of the Phillip Rush Center, a collaborative effort to support and sustain LGBT and allied organizations in Atlanta.
The Phillip Rush Center is named for noted community advocate and philanthropist Phillip Rush in honor of his long-standing commitment to bring diverse people and organizations together in an effort to foster partnerships and understanding. With initial funding from the Lloyd Russell Foundation, the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Fund and a host of individual donors, the Phillip Rush Center houses office space, meeting and training rooms to be used by organizations whose mission or activities advance LGBT rights and understanding.
The Rush Center houses the offices of Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative, Georgia Equality and MEGA Family Project and hosts regular meetings of organizations such as the Circle of Grace Church, United 4 Safety, Georgia Shares, Human Rights Atlanta and a variety of support groups.
Health Fair 2 Go 2 a Big Success
Thanks to all who attended the Health Fair 2 Go 2. Many women turned out to test their blood pressure, glucose, BMI, and to take advantage of other health services that help prevent and detect chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. CDC acknowledges that lesbians are at greater risk for chronic diseases. It is up to us to stay vigilant and monitor our health.
Fourth Tuesday (the social arm of ALHI) is resurrecting its tradition of meeting on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Back in the 1980s, when social gatherings of out Lesbians was rarely done, meeting on the 4th Tuesday was code for – come safely socialize with your sisters. As acceptance was earned over years of asking for a place at the table, separate social events began to disappear. But what hasn’t changed is the importance of social networks. They give opportunities to meet new people and nurture support systems. Social support is an important component of your mental and emotional health.
Our first dinner gathering is Tuesday, November 24th at Carpe Diem in Decatur.
Drinks and mingling at 6:00pm and dinner is at 7pm. Everyone is welcome!
See you on the 24th!
