The Health Initiative to Benefit from East Point Possums

The Health Initiative is proud to be one of two beneficiaries of the 13th Annual East Point Possums Show on June 19th.

East Point Possums, billed as “the Southeast’s largest drag show,” began performing informal drag shows in 1998, and quickly saw an opportunity to raise money for their favorite LGBT non-profit organizations.

Since that time, they have donated 100% of proceeds (in the tens of thousands) to local charities. Rick Westbrook, co-founder of the Possums, noted: “This year, with adding the ALHI as a benefactor along with Atlanta Pride, we continue to grow, increase exposure for our benefactors, serve our community in a unique way, and showcase the amazing work that our non-profit partners do for all of us.”

The Health Initiative Partners with The Wellness Community to offer LGBT Cancer Support Group

In a continuing effort to strengthen partnerships with healthcare and service providers throughout the metro area, the Health Initiative is excited to partner with with The Wellness Community of Northside Hospital in the creation of a new support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people affected by cancer.

Partners, caregivers, family, and friends are welcome to attend the sessions, which will be facilitated by Rachel Newby, LMSW, and occur on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Health Fund Reminder

Please keep in mind that the Health Initiative's Lesbian Health Fund provides access to valuable health screenings for uninsured and under-insured lesbians. Women can get assistance for pap smears, mammograms, and other screenings.
