Mission

The Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative promotes the health and well-being of lesbians through education, advocacy and support services.

Vision
The Health Initiative’s vision for Georgia:

• Every lesbian has access to healthcare that is sensitive to and supportive of her life circumstances.
• All lesbians have regular and safe access to health screenings.
• Lesbians have the opportunity and the encouragement to live fully and healthfully.
• Lesbians have access to the information and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their health.
• Lesbians stand up and advocate for their own health.

THE HEALTH INITIATIVE ADVOCATES FOR LESBIAN HEALTH
The Health Initiative is the only voice for lesbian health in Georgia. When women’s health is discussed at the state capital or in public arenas, The Health Initiative is there to ensure that lesbians and women who partner with women are represented. If the Health Initiative doesn’t speak up for lesbian health, who will?

THE HEALTH INITIATIVE SUPPORTS WOMEN LIVING WITH ILLNESS
We support and enhance the quality of life.  The Health Initiative offers services including: support groups, one-on-one counseling, on-site resource library, referrals to local services and programs, and care team formation and management.

THE HEALTH INITIATIVE PROMOTES HEALTH AND PREVENTION
There is not just one lesbian community. The Health Initiative offers health and wellness programs and information that are created for different audiences based on their age, geography, race, culture and socioeconomic situation. Women are encouraged to make healthy choices, and are supported as they do so.

THE HEALTH INITIATIVE TRAINS HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
The Health Initiative offers cultural competency training to facilitate lesbian-friendly healthcare services. Healthcare provider training is important because it creates a ripple effect throughout the community, having a positive impact on even more women’s lives than any individual outreach the Health Initiative can do.
