CARPE BOOBEM! Take hold of your breast health.
All women are at risk for developing breast cancer. Studies show that lesbians can be at a higher risk than straight women for developing breast cancer and other diseases. The GOOD NEWS is you can do several things to reduce your risk of developing the disease.
Take hold of your breast health by doing the following:
Perform a BREAST SELF-EXAM every month.
Know thyself. Sure, you think you know what your own breast looks like, and feels like, but when have you examined each breast objectively, carefully?

Familiarity with how your breasts look and feel under normal conditions is an effective tool for early detection of breast cancer. Armed with that knowledge, you'll be better able to detect if something changes and to see a doctor right away. For more information on how to perform a breast self exam, click here.
GET A MAMMOGRAM every year after age 40 (or earlier if your doctor recommends it)
A mammogram is a type of x-ray that can be effective at detecting most types of breast cancer. Most doctors agree that having this annual screening is a positive step a woman can take to manage her own health. Women with higher risk of breast cancer should talk with their health care provider about the best approach for them.
