A.D. McNaghten, PhD, MHSA, is an epidemiologist in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Global HIV/AIDS Program. She is the Principal Investigator for Project STATUS, a randomized trial of HIV testing interventions to determine how to increase HIV testing and link HIV-infected persons to care and treatment in four African countries.

She was previously the Project Officer for the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP), a nationally representative study of the clinical outcomes and HIV-related behaviors of HIV-infected patients in care. She was the CDC's Surveillance Officer for CDC-Zimbabwe and consulting Surveillance Officer for all other countries in the African region, providing technical and epidemiologic guidance in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS and related epidemiologic surveillance efforts. She has served as a Project Officer for studies monitoring disease progression, laboratory data, and prescription and impact of antiretroviral therapies and prophylactic medications among persons with HIV and AIDS receiving medical care in the United States.

Dr. McNaghten received her Ph.D. from Ohio University. She joined the Health Initiative board in June 2007. She resides in Atlanta with her fabulous feline, Eartha Katt
